Radical Road Brewing Co. approached me to design the can artwork for Big Mash, a limited-edition beer created in collaboration with Toronto music supply store Cask Music.
The collaboration brought together local craft beer and Toronto’s independent music scene, with proceeds from the beer supporting the Unison Benevolent Fund, a charity that provides assistance to Canadian music workers.
The name and visual direction drew directly from the iconic Big Muff guitar pedal, with “Mash” reframing the reference through the language of brewing. Inspired by the pedal’s bold, utilitarian graphics, the can design reimagined that visual language as a playful piece of beer packaging.
The result was a limited-edition can that felt true to both collaborators: part stompbox, part craft beer, and rooted in Toronto music culture. The beer launched through Radical Road and received coverage from Exclaim!, helping bring additional visibility to the collaboration and the cause.
